Inauguration of the first Integrated Imaging System for Interventional Radiology in Italy
On April 16, the first and only system installed in Italy for Eco-Angio-CT Integrated Imaging for Interventional Radiology was inaugurated at the European Institute of Oncology.
This new equipment is the most advanced in the field of interventional radiological oncology allows clinicians to efficiently plan, precise treatment procedures. Further the results of the treatments can be verified in the same room. This single system and with a reduced total dose of radiation delivered to the patient is therefore intended to broaden the indications of Interventional Radiology in oncology, improving precision, efficacy and safety.
"There is no doubt that the new system will make our activity take a leap in quality - comments Dr. Franco Orsi, Director of the IEO Interventional Radiology Division. As interventional radiology depends on imaging, any advances will automatically improvie clinical performance. The Alphenix 4D CT is the most advanced hybrid imaging system available internationally".
"Until yesterday - explains Orsi – we used ultrasound, angiography and in some cases CT scan in the operating room of Interventional Radiology, but the relative specific images had to be processed and integrated by the mind of the operator”.
"These interventions are part of our Institute of Precision Medicine Program," concludes Roberto Orecchia, IEO Scientific Director. "Accuracy is made possible only by the technological advances and this system is an example of this extraordinary progress”. The Alphenix 4D CT is the most advanced hybrid imaging system capable of integrating, in real time, data from different imaging sources. In clinical terms this means to see the 3D organs and simultaneously visualize their vascularization in a fourth dimension and so evaluate the functionality of the organ before, during and after intervention. It also means We can "navigate" virtually into the mass of the organ, to eliminate the lesions quickly and accurately.
The European Institute of Oncology was the first Oncology Center to inaugurate in 2015 a clinical division of Oncological Interventional Radiology, with dedicated equipment and hospital beds. Since then the activity has been growing steadily and in 2018, over 2,200 interventional radiology procedures were performed here.
