• CLINICAL ACTIVITIES
  • Educational training entirely dedicated to the study of cancers of the thoracic district, explicited by the specialization in both Internal Medicine and Pneumology.
  • Since 1980, professional experience at the Azienda Ospedaliera San Camillo-Forlanini, where he had been the Director of the Thoracic Oncology Unit from 2000 up to 2013.
  • Currently, he is at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan as chair of the new Division of Thoracic Oncology, part of the integrated Lung Cancer Program, dedicated to prevention, diagnosis, care and clinical research for patients with lung cancers (but also for patients affected by esophageal, thymic, mediastinal, pleural cancer as well as soft tissues sarcomas), in close collaboration with the Thoracic Surgery Division, directed by prof. Lorenzo Spaggiari.
  • Expert of clinical trials in the thoracic oncology field. He actively took part to the decision-making process of all the international clinical trials with new drugs that were successfully approved for use in clinical practice, in Italy and in the other European Countries.
  • Member of Scientific Italian and International Associations with active roles. Among others, he was founding member and president of AIOT (Italian Thoracic Oncology Association), regional and national counselor of AIOM (Italian Medical Oncology Association), member of ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology), ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncolgy), IASLC (International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer) and ETOP (European Thoracic Oncology Platform).
  • As Key Opinion Leader in lung cancer, he has been invited as speaker/chair to more than 300 national and international congresses in the last 5 years, and he is also author of more than 250 publications in 130 different indexed peer-review scientific journals. 
• RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
  • Clinical Research in Thoracic Oncology is of main importance since it gives patients the opportunity to take advantage of new discoveries in the field of lung cancer treatment. Therefore, Clinical Research does not imply to “use patients”, but provide them new therapeutic opportunities.
  • During his 30-years career of thoracic oncologist, he has always supported Clinical Research, with the creation of a Division composed by specialists in clinical trials management. Therefore, the Division has become a reference for all the main Pharmaceuticals as well as for all the Italian and foreign patients with lung cancer.
• EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

  In addition to AIOT, he is involved in permanent update educational activities, accordingly to the Ministry of Health licenses.

  He had the role of Professor in Oncology at La Sapienza University and at Campus Biomedico, in Rome.
